BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) Program

The BDS is India's sole dental surgery educational and professional program. It is the students' second choice following the MBBS course in the medical educational area. Students will learn about dentures, dental issues, and surgery in this course.

It is a five-year undergraduate curriculum and India's sole professional dentistry school. Students who want to work as dentists in government or private hospitals must take this course. After MBBS, BDS is one of the most popular medical courses in India.

In India, students must pass the 10+2 exam or have an equivalent degree from a recognized institute to be admitted to BDS programs.

In most cases, only one admission exam is held across India. The Nationwide Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a national-level exam that takes place once a year.

» Candidates have to fulfill certain requirements to get admission to BDS courses offered by institutes/colleges. Some of the eligibility criteria are as follows:

  •  Candidates should have passed 10+2 in subjects such as Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. They must have scored at least 50 percent marks in the 12th standard.
  • Must not be less than 17 years old, and qualifying for NEET is compulsory.

» Candidates who want to enroll in a BDS program must pass an entrance exam. The National Testing Agency makes an application form available online. For admission to an undergraduate dentistry program, candidates must complete the application by the deadline and take the NEET test. The test is computer-based and takes place once a year. One of the requirements for participating in NEET counseling is to meet the minimum cutoff. Seats are distributed according to rank, applicant choice, seat availability, and reservation requirements.
